Abstract

The performance of composite materials is superior to the pure material and alloys. The inclusion of industrial and agro waste as reinforcements has reduced the overall cost of reinforcement. The present research work is focused on the effect of the addition of Silicon Carbide (SiC) and Corn cob ash (CCA) on the mechanical properties of the aluminium alloy (6063). The hybrid composites were developed by stir casting technique. Various wt. % of SiC and CCA (Sic:CCA 0:0, 2:2, 3:3, 4:4 and 5:0) were mixed by the ball-milling process and utilized as the reinforcement for the development and characterization of the AA6063 hybrid composites. Evaluation of the density and mechanical characterization of the developed samples were carried out. The density of the hybrid composites decreased with the increased percentage of the CCA, whereas an improvement in the mechanical properties was recorded with the addition of CCA content in the hybrid composites. Hence, CCA can be utilized as the reinforcement for the development of low dense high performance AA6063 hybrid composites.
