Abstract

This study investigates the investment preferences associated with Post Office Saving Schemes (POSS) in both rural and urban areas of Himachal Pradesh, with a focus on identifying the key factors that drive investor decision-making. It analyzes differences in risk tolerance, return expectations, accessibility, and financial literacy that influence investment behavior in these government-backed schemes. Utilizing a mixed-methods research design, the study collected primary data from 400 participants (200 from rural areas and 200 from urban regions) through structured questionnaires and interviews. The results indicate that rural investors tend to prioritize capital safety and assured returns, whereas urban investors show a greater preference for diversified and higher-yield financial instruments. Statistical analysis confirms that variables such as income level, educational attainment, and financial awareness significantly shape investment choices. The findings offer policy-relevant insights, emphasizing the importance of tailored financial literacy initiatives and the development of customized savings products to promote broader financial inclusion.
